You may not know him but his name is Jacques Cartier. He was a famous sailor in the 1500s. He was born in Saint Malo, France, on a coast that they call Brittany. He had gone on many voyages. 3 of his voyages were in Canada. His two first voyages were to find another way to go to the wealthy markets of Asia. The third one they totally forgot about it and tried to settle in Canada, but were driven back by disease, foul weather, and attacking Indians called the Iroquois.
